Company Overview
Graybar was founded in 1869 American employee-owned corporation, based in St. Louis, Missouri. Its business includes wholesale distribution business for electrical, communications and data networking products, and is a provider of related supply-chain management and logistics services. The current CEO of Graybar is Kathleen Mazzarella. Graybar is one of the largest employee-owned companies since 1929. For now, Graybar is made up of 289 locations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico with about 8,700 employees serving 145,000 customers.
Objective
The company has been facing many issues over the past couple of years failing to keep up with their competition’s adaptability to newer technology. For years, the upper management team have dealt with multiple complaints from lower-level employees at different branches about the impact their existing information systems have had in their productivity. This company has been against performing a massive underhaul to their systems. It has kept the company from standardizing their systems to one sole CRM platform. Many employees have not been able to compete with their competition because they don't have the ability to use other resources in other departments efficiently. As a result, their competitors have had the ability to share sales tools, stock levels, reporting, invoicing/billing, and other sources much more fluidly which ultimately increases their productivity. It has been very clear that the IS strategy is not aligned with their business strategy, in which has impacted the company negatively and prevented them to take the company to a whole different level. We are hoping with our research and analysis we can come up with a few recommendations that can potentially help Graybar. We believe the frameworks we have chosen will help us identify the areas that affect the company the most.

Amy Chery - Director of Lighting Department, New York District. She has 13 years with Graybar - previously with a competitor - over 20 years of experience in the electrical/lighting industry. She Manages a team of 50 employees across 5 branches - NY, NJ, NYC. Teams managed by Amy Chery includes project management, quoting, and customer service. She has had over 10 years of experience dealing with Graybar’s IT department regarding potential risks, IS issues and the implementation of pilot programs that have not been successful.
